Good candidates are healthy adults who are at or near a stable, realistic weight (typically within a normal-to-moderately-raised BMI range) with localised pockets of fat that persist despite diet and exercise, and who have reasonably good skin elasticity to retract over the new contour. It is not a treatment for obesity or general weight loss, and patients with very loose or significantly excess skin may be better served by, or may need to combine it with, a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). Smokers are usually asked to stop for several weeks before and after, and people with uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders, significant heart or lung disease, or active infection are generally not suitable. Expect soreness, swelling and bruising for the first one to two weeks, similar to an intense workout, and you will wear a compression garment continuously (often for 4-6 weeks) to support healing and help the skin retract.
