Breast Reduction in Turkey

Surgically reduce and reshape overly large breasts to relieve neck, back and shoulder pain and restore a lighter, balanced, natural figure.

Overview

Breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) removes excess breast tissue, fat and skin to create smaller, lighter, better-proportioned breasts. For international patients, accredited Turkish hospitals offer board-certified plastic surgeons and full inpatient care at a fraction of UK or US prices, typically from around £3,200. Unal Cakar is an independent facilitator and patient advocate who coordinates your consultation, surgery and aftercare with vetted clinics; you pay the hospital directly and are supported in your own language throughout.

Breast reduction is a plastic surgery procedure that reduces the size and weight of the breasts while reshaping them and, in most cases, lifting them to a more youthful position. It is most often chosen by women whose disproportionately large breasts cause physical symptoms such as chronic neck, shoulder and back pain, grooving from bra straps, skin irritation or rashes under the breast, difficulty exercising and poor posture. Many candidates also describe a significant emotional and quality-of-life burden.

The operation removes glandular tissue, fat and surplus skin, repositions the nipple-areola complex higher on the breast, and tightens the remaining skin envelope. Because tissue is removed rather than only repositioned, it differs from a simple breast lift (mastopexy), although the two share many surgical steps. The result is a firmer, lighter and more proportionate breast that is easier to live with day to day.

How it’s done

Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes two to three hours. The surgeon marks the new breast shape while you are standing, then makes the incisions agreed in your plan. The most common is the 'anchor' (inverted-T) pattern around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease and along the crease; smaller reductions may use a shorter 'lollipop' (vertical) scar. Excess gland, fat and skin are removed, the nipple-areola is moved upward (kept attached to its blood and nerve supply in the great majority of cases), and the breast is reshaped and closed in layers. Liposuction is sometimes added to refine the sides.

Most patients stay one night in hospital. You wake in a surgical support bra with fine dissolvable sutures and, occasionally, small drains that are removed within a day or two. The clinic provides medication for pain and to reduce swelling, and your surgeon reviews you before you are discharged to your hotel for the remainder of your stay in Turkey.

Is it right for you?

Good candidates are women in generally good health who have physical symptoms or significant discomfort from large, heavy breasts, who do not smoke (or can stop several weeks before and after surgery) and who have realistic expectations. Breast development should be complete, and many surgeons prefer that your weight is stable. Reduction is usually best deferred if you are planning pregnancy or wish to breastfeed in the near future, as both can change breast size and shape and may affect feeding; it can still be done later. You may not be a suitable candidate if you have uncontrolled diabetes, significant cardiovascular or clotting disorders, a high BMI that raises healing and anaesthetic risk, or active breast disease that needs investigation first. A frank assessment of your history and goals during consultation determines whether surgery is appropriate for you.

Benefits

  • Lasting relief from neck, shoulder and back pain caused by breast weight
  • Easier exercise, better posture and a wider, more comfortable choice of clothing
  • Lighter, firmer and more proportionate breasts, usually lifted at the same time
  • Relief from bra-strap grooving and skin irritation or rashes under the breasts
  • Board-certified plastic surgeons and accredited hospitals at a fraction of UK/US cost
  • End-to-end coordination, interpreter support and structured aftercare via an independent advocate

Recovery & aftercare

Expect to take it easy for the first one to two weeks. Soreness, swelling, bruising and a tight feeling are normal and controlled with prescribed medication; most patients move comfortably around the home within a few days and many return to desk-based work after about two weeks. You wear a soft surgical support bra day and night for several weeks to support healing and reduce swelling, and you avoid underwired bras until your surgeon clears them.

Heavy lifting, gym training, running and other strenuous activity are restricted for around four to six weeks, with full recovery typically by six weeks. Scars are firm and pink at first and fade gradually over 12 to 18 months; following the scar-care advice you are given helps them settle. You travel home with written aftercare instructions and ongoing remote support, and any concerns are relayed to your surgeon through Unal.

Results to expect

Most patients notice immediate relief from the weight on their chest, and breast shape continues to refine as swelling settles over the following weeks and months, with the final result generally clear by six to twelve months. Breasts are smaller, firmer and more lifted, and clothes typically fit more comfortably. Results are intended to be long-lasting, though the natural effects of ageing, gravity, significant weight change and pregnancy can alter shape over time. Scars are permanent but usually fade to fine pale lines; their final appearance varies between individuals and skin types. No surgeon can guarantee an exact cup size, perfect symmetry or a particular scar outcome, and a realistic, individualised plan is discussed with you beforehand.

Safety & honest risks

Breast reduction is a well-established operation, but like any surgery it carries risks. These include bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing (particularly where incisions meet), visible or thickened scars, asymmetry and changes in breast or nipple sensation that are usually temporary but can occasionally be permanent. There is a small risk of altered or rare loss of the nipple-areola, and reduction can affect future breastfeeding. General anaesthesia and any surgery carry a small risk of blood clots (DVT/PE), which is reduced with early mobilisation and preventive measures. Smoking markedly increases healing and tissue-loss risks. Reputable accredited clinics mitigate these through thorough screening, sterile JCI-standard facilities, experienced board-certified surgeons, clear aftercare and accessible follow-up; you should report any unusual pain, fever, bleeding or wound changes promptly.

Frequently asked

How much does breast reduction cost in Turkey?

Breast reduction in Turkey starts from around £3,200, typically including the surgeon's fee, anaesthesia, your hospital stay and standard aftercare. The exact price depends on the amount of tissue removed, the technique and whether liposuction is added. You receive a clear, itemised quote after your consultation and pay the hospital directly.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey?

Plan for about 5 to 7 days. This allows your pre-operative assessment, surgery with usually one overnight in hospital, and a follow-up visit with drain and dressing checks before the surgeon confirms you are fit to fly home.

How painful is the recovery, and when can I go back to work?

Most patients describe soreness and tightness rather than severe pain, well controlled with prescribed medication. You should rest for the first one to two weeks; many people return to desk-based work after about two weeks and to strenuous activity or the gym at around four to six weeks.

Will I have visible scars?

Yes, breast reduction leaves permanent scars, most commonly an anchor or vertical 'lollipop' pattern around the areola and below the breast. They are firm and pink at first and usually fade to fine pale lines over 12 to 18 months. Following your scar-care advice helps them settle, though final appearance varies by skin type.

Can I breastfeed after a breast reduction?

Breastfeeding may still be possible, but reduction can reduce or affect milk supply because glandular tissue and ducts are altered. If you plan to have children and breastfeed soon, it is often advised to wait, as pregnancy can also change your results. Discuss your plans openly so the technique can be chosen accordingly.

Is breast reduction surgery safe in Turkey?

When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon in an accredited hospital, it is a well-established and safe procedure. Risks such as bleeding, infection, delayed healing, scarring and changes in sensation exist with any surgery. Unal works only with vetted, accredited clinics and arranges proper screening, sterile facilities and structured follow-up to keep your care safe.

How long do the results last?

Results are designed to be long-lasting and the physical relief is usually immediate. However, ageing, gravity, significant weight changes and pregnancy can gradually alter breast shape and size over the years. Maintaining a stable weight helps preserve your result.
