Recovery & aftercare
There is no single recovery time for epilepsy, because treatment ranges from a medication review to brain surgery. If your care is diagnostic and medication-based, there is no recovery period as such — you continue normal activities while your neurologist monitors how the new or adjusted medication suits you, which can take several weeks to settle. Driving rules and certain activities are guided by how long you have been seizure-free, according to local regulations.
If you undergo epilepsy surgery, an inpatient hospital stay of several days is usual, followed by a recovery period of a few weeks before returning to normal activity, and longer before the full benefit on seizures can be judged. Vagus nerve stimulation is a smaller procedure with quicker recovery.
